The Legendary Pakistani Pop Singer: Atif Aslam LATEST INTERVIEW

Atif Aslam is one of the most famous singers and songwriters of Pakistan. He has recorded numerous chart-topping songs and have millions of fans around the globe. On July 17 2004 Atif Aslam released his first solo album Jal Pari which was an instant hit and charted across Asia.

Atif Aslam also recorded two solo albums Doorie and Meri Kahani which were also a major hit.He has also sung many bollywood songs that were successful too.

He recently gave interview to Samina Peerzada in her viral show ‘Speak Your Heart Out With Samina’.He talked about his journey from childhood to college life and also revealed many secrets which his fans were desperate to know.He revealed the main reason why he left Jal and also explained how he become one of the best pop singer and songwriter of Subcontinent.

CHILDHOOD STORIES:

He started the interview by telling his childhood stories.Atif Aslam was born in Wazirabad and later on he shifted to Model town,Lahore where he spent a large part of his childhood.He also told that his dream was to become a cricketer he also got selected in Pakistan under 19 team but his father didn't allowed him to play for the team and asked him to focus on his studies.This was the turning point in his life because at this point his dream to represent Pakistan cricket team ended and he stopped playing regular cricket.

JOURNEY OF ATIF'S MUSIC CAREER:

Atif Aslam told that he always wanted to become a cricketer and had no concept of music in his childhood.He said:

There was no music in the house, no one used to sing and the first music that I hit was when my eldest brother bought a tape recorder and that tape recorder was placed on top of the cupboard so that no other kid could take it so only my eldest brother had the permission to use it

His elder brother had a small collection of music to which he used to listen and sing along aswell.When he was in college one of his friends forced him to take part in music competition and luckily he won that competition and this first win encouraged him to take part in other music competitions and luckily he kept on winning them.He also shared a story that how he got interest in musical equipments:

"My brother used to teach in the academy I would go to so.The principle of that academy had a guitar and i used to look at the guitar and think of it as a very cool thing its like good to have a guitar.I used to understand only this by then.Then all of a sudden I think my brother brought his friend's guitar which sat in the house for months It only had 3 strings and it came onto my hands.My brother gave up on the guitar, because he was like nothing is happening and its isn't fun.Those 3 strings,I used to play with those 3 strings.Sleeping, waking, standing and sitting everything was with it and the attachment with it transformed into passion and it became so strong that after a year or so, I got to know thatthat their is a standard tuning in which you have to tune the strings so for a year, I tried to create music out of those 3 out of tune strings and I tried to sing on them.Thats how it started."

FORMATION OF JAL:

Atif was asked,

    "How Jal band was made?"

He replied:

"So the band was made This guy was senior to me in college.He used to play guitars and he used to play really well. You didn't know that this thing kept on pulling you.I didn't know that why this was happening.You were intrigued by the guitar and your voice.You were getting intrigued by everything and that this my calling Exactly, I had no idea I had no idea at all and I just saw him playing the guitar and asked him if he wanted to join me it would be fun if we work together so he said yes I said okay so from there on I started sharing my compositions and it started growing."

 He also told that Jal first performed in McDonald's.

WHY ATIF ASLAM DISBAND JAL:

Atif Aslam when asked about the reason why he left Jal band when it was achieving so much success.On response to that question he told that he never wanted to left the band but some circumstances forced him to do so.He said:

"There are a lot of reasons for that What happened was that My brother was managing us and he was managing us because he was working for a marketing company at that point of time and when I talked to Gauhar, I said What should we do because people really have started calling us up now and we should do some shows He agreed and said You should talk to your brother because I think he works for a marketing company so talk to him So I talked to him and he said okay I will leave my job because it is quite a thing, because you both have a full time job so We will talk about money when you will become something We though that it was a good idea so he was there too No he started managing everything and . after a couple of months What happened was that he came up to me and he said I think we cannot work together like this I asked that why what happened? Why are you behaving like that? My brother will manage too If your brother is managing, mine will manage too I asked him to give me a good reason so I kind of got to know that More money will go into your house as compared to mine It was about that then so I felt really I got ticked off I was like, what are you talking about? Now my brother had left his job at that time What would I tell him? so I told my brother like this and he said that . Its fine I think I I don't know what to do right now I don't know what you people want More that this the thing that hurt me and was weird was that I was still trying for us to work together, because it would have been a good thing because I would be the last person who breaks a relation with someone I am the one who fixes things I never try and break I never try to break bond with people I'd be the last person so what happened was there was a show and at this time my brother was not managing, he had left and had gone back to his office work I started getting calls and they told me that there is a concert which is happening on these dates so for 2 months, we weren't talking with each other I called him up and I said Listen we will achieve nothing like this, lets work together there is query on the 19th of this month lets rehearse and lets play He came 2 days for the rehearsals He was there rehearsing with me the third day he says Where is the money? I was like, I haven't recieved anything yet, but when I will get them I will give them to you He says, so if it is like this so I think on the same day I have been called to Karachi for a television show, they are calling Jal so I am going there to represent Jal I was like, how can you go like that? I mean I have committed and I told you before The posters have been printed How will all this happen? The entire burden will come on me He says, "Do what you think is right, I think that t.v coverage is more important for the band" I understood He was trying to blackmail me, so I could give the money I didn't have the money Of course if I did had anything at that time I would have obviously given it to him So at the end of the day, what happened was I figured out that He won't be coming to rehearse for the next few days and I have to do everything myself I rehearsed with the kids I taught them the songs and all of that I got to know that he went onto that channel and on that t.v channel he told them that there was a death at my home and that is why I couldn't come There weren't phones at that time so I recieve call on my landline I pick up the phone and it goes I, Ahmad Ali Butt is talking No exposure of me ever talking to Ahmad Ali Butt I hadn't even met him I, Ahmad Ali Butt is talking, are you Atif Aslam? I told him that yes its me speaking He says that, what proof do you have that you are Atif Aslam so I had to prove myself and I had to sing a song to prove him that I was speaking Whether it was Ahmad Ali Butt, or it was someone from there channel, who was a representitive They call me and talked that this person who is sitting before us Your guitarist He is saying that there was a death in your family I told him that, sorry, God forbid Nothing as such happened, everyone is fine the person sitting before you is lying to you he is not telling the truth Everything is fine at my house The call ended So basically he went there for a representation and he lied to them because obviously they were asking him That where is the band member Where is the lead singer who sang the song Where is he? So he says that there was a death in his family, he can't come they confirmed and it didn't happen So probably they took the tickets away from him and the hotel stuff and all that that you lied to us and the program cannot happen We have spend so much and all that It must have happened I don't know but he lied to me and what happened was that concert that happened in Lahore I had to do it myself I did it myself It was a sucess and from there I decided that, I won't be working with him anymore."

He also told that after he left Jal and finally when he released his first solo album "Jal Pari" which was an instant hit,it got copyright infringement.He said:

""So unfortunately there is a copyright act in this country but its not implemented so FIRs and cases were done the strange thing is that both had their albums released and both had same songs and it never happened in the world So it became Jal and Jal Pari Exactly."
